LOVE, PROFANE AND SACRED

Come and explore the mystery of human relationship–to oneself, to others, and to the Divine, in a full day workshop.

Morning: THE COMPOSITE CHART

An extremely useful astrological technique for revealing the dynamics of our interactions with others. Given the different levels of human beings, how can we better achieve harmony with each other? Some sample charts will offer suggestions for analysis and interpretation.

Afternoon: AN AFTERNOON WITH NEPTUNE: WILL THE REAL NEPTUNE PLEASE

STAND UP?

Commonly associated with confusion and delusion, can we discover more positive aspects of Neptune, as in an attunement with nature, gifts of creativity and heightened intuition, and a profound love of the Divine?

After looking at the “astrological world view”, we will explore the journey of the soul into incarnation and the finding of a “spiritual path”.

Monday, June 3, 2019—7 to 8 p.m.

At THE THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY
50 Gloucester Place,

London, England  W1U 8EA

MAKING THE MOST OF MINOR ASPECTS

REINCARNATION AND ASTROLOGY

Have we lived before in other places and as other people? We’ll consider the implications of  reincarnation (like karma) and its place in religions, spiritual philosophy, and esoteric wisdom. AND can past-life patterns be determined from your horoscope? Both psychologists and astrologers say yes. We’ll explore the methods they’ve developed to retrieve these and the factors (like Saturn, Pluto, and the Moon’s nodes) thought to be especially revealing.

Bring your charts! (If you don’t have one, go to astrolabe.com or

astrodienst.com for a free one.)

TWO TALKS

Friday, May 25, 2018: 9:00-10:15 am

“Making The Most of Minor Aspects”

Over centuries, minor aspects have been added to the basic Ptolemaic set of conjunction, opposition, square, trine, and sextile. Modern astrologers now use semi-sextiles and quincunxes. What do these and other minor aspects (5ths, 7ths, 9ths, 11ths) mean, both symbolically and practically? Theory (numerology and harmonics) and charts of famous people will help you understand and use them in your charts.

Monday, May 28, 2018: 9-10:15 A.M.

“Will The Real Neptune Please Stand Up?”

As a Neptunian, are you fated to suffer from confusion and delusion? Is that all there is to Neptune? What about artistic abilities, special sensitivities, and psychic and spiritual gifts? Let’s focus on the positive Neptune and consider some helpful and protective practices for coping with Neptunian sensitivities. How can we best use our imagination and intuition? How can we best manage its manifestations on the physical, emotional, and mental levels?

On “Astrology, Magic, and Alchemy in Shakespeare’s Plays”

Shakespeare is doubtless one of the most important transmitters of the Western esoteric tradition, though it is well garmented in his works. But we can uncover the more obvious and more subtle ways that he uses astrological symbolism–poetically, psychologically, and structurally. His treatment of magic, both black (in “Macbeth”) and white (in “The Tempest”) is dramatic and daring for his time. And does he really reference and incorporate alchemy?

Monday, June 18th, 2018

7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.: TREADWELL’S BOOKSHOP
33 Store Street, Bloomsbury, London WC1E 7BS

On “Planets and Personality: is our Character Truly Written in the Stars?”

From ancient times to now people have tried to determine character traits of human beings through connections to the cosmos. Both temperament theory (which bases personality on the four elements) and astrological symbolism (which relates types to the twelve zodiacal signs) assume that humanity must reflect both the natural and archetypal worlds.

What are these types? And what recommendations did philosophers, doctors, and astrologers make to mitigate our excesses or compensate for imbalances?

This talk includes examples of temperament types as found in Shakespeare’s plays and briefly considers how the psychology of C. G. Jung incorporates some of these theories and updates them for our time.

Astrology…And Shakespeare?

Yes! The world’s greatest playwright undoubtedly used astrological symbolism to create his timeless works. Since the Elizabethan worldview included the spheres of the planets, it’s no surprise that his plays are filled with references to the Sun, Moon stars, planets, eclipses, etc. Individual plays are even “keyed” to specific signs and their planetary rulers. For proof, we’ll look especially at “Romeo and Juliet”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, and “Macbeth”.

Shake-Speare’s Education And Evidence Of Western (Spiritual) Philosophy In The Plays

How much evidence is there of the influence of Classical writers in the plays? Can this be accounted for by the typical grammar-school education of the time?   What ideas and attitudes in the plays could only have been learned through an education available to a noble?   Evidence of classical philosophy (especially Pythagorean, Platonic, and Neo-Platonic ideas) becomes a determining factor in establishing authorship.
